How to use heat tools without damaging your hair

Heat tools make styling easy, but heat is also the most common cause of dryness and breakage. These habits keep hair healthy.

Always use a heat protectant

Apply it to damp hair before drying and to dry hair before ironing.

Match the temperature to your hair

  • Fine or coloured hair: low to medium heat.
  • Thick or coarse hair: medium to high heat.
  • With an adjustable iron such as the BTX450, start low and increase only if needed.

Dry before you iron

Never use a flat iron on wet hair. Rough-dry first with a dryer such as the TORO 2400 Mini.

One slow pass beats many fast ones

Work in small sections and glide once, slowly.

Care for the tool

Unplug, let it cool on a heat-safe surface and wipe plates when cold.
