Most salon brands treat the scalp as an afterthought — one anti-dandruff shampoo parked at the end of the catalogue. Medavita does the opposite. Five separate scalp lines, each built around a different mechanism, and a sixth (Lotion Concentrée) that is the reason the company exists at all. This guide tells you which one is yours.
First: is it your scalp or your hair?
People buy the wrong product because they read the symptom on the lengths and treat it there. A quick test.
- Your roots are greasy but your ends are dry → scalp problem (sebum), not a dryness problem.
- You see white flakes on your shoulders and the scalp itches → dandruff, a fungal-driven condition.
- Your scalp tightens, stings or goes red after washing → sensitivity, and most "clarifying" products will make it worse.
- Hair goes flat within a day and the scalp feels heavy → build-up and congestion.
- You are finding more hair in the brush than you used to → shedding, and it needs a treatment, not a shampoo.
Lotion Concentrée — shedding and fragile hair
This is the product Medavita is known for, and the process behind it is unusual enough to be worth knowing. It is made over roughly eight months: six of steam-chain distillation with no solvents, then a maceration of exactly 55 days. The formula holds the international patent WO 99/20232 and carries arnica, rosemary, aloe, calamus, myrrh, cinnamon, ginger, galbanum, nutmeg and camphor. Medavita puts usage at about 120,000 women a year.
Alongside the ampoule ritual sits the Energizing Tonic — biotin, caffeine, vitamin C and epilobium — designed as a daily tonic rather than an occasional treatment, and the Vitality Hair & Scalp Cream. There is a men's route too, under Male: an anti-hair-loss treating shampoo and an anti-loss intensive treatment.
Best for: hair that is shedding more than it was, or feels thin and lifeless at the root.
Expectations: this is a months-long commitment, like every anti-shedding protocol. If your shedding is sudden or patchy, see a doctor before you see a shelf.
Requilibre — oily scalp
The active idea here is selectivity. A strong detergent strips the scalp, the scalp panics and produces more sebum, and you end up washing daily. Requilibre uses a complex of abietic acid and soy proteins that is dermo-purifying and dermo-protective at the same time — it dissolves excess sebum while hydrating, so the rebound does not happen.
The line runs a Sebum Balancing Shampoo (250 ml, 1.25 L), a Sebum Balancing Scalp Lotion in a 12 × 6 ml home course, a Rebalancing Dermocream and a Balancing Emulsion, plus a shampoo-and-lotion duo.
Best for: roots that are greasy by day two. Not for: flaking — that is Puroxine.
Puroxine — dandruff
Piroctone olamine with zinc, tea tree and rosemary, plus panthenol and glycerin so it does not leave the scalp parched. Medavita's claim is that it removes visible dandruff immediately and prevents it re-forming, with an exfoliating and anti-itch action behind it.
Beyond the Instant Anti Dandruff Shampoo there is a Purifying Micellar Water, a Purifying Dermocream and a professional Anti Dandruff Lotion in a 12 × 6 ml course.
Best for: visible flakes with itching. Be warned: it smells like treatment, not perfume. That is the tea tree and it is doing its job.
Velour — sensitive scalp
The gentlest thing in the range. Lavender and wheat germ proteins, eudermic and emollient, formulated to soothe irritation rather than strip anything. If your scalp is reactive, this is where you start — and specifically not with a scrub or a clarifying wash, which is the most common mistake in this category.
Best for: a scalp that tightens, stings or reddens. Also the right choice during a course of medicated treatment, when everything else feels too harsh.
Oxygen Detox — congestion and build-up
Bamboo charcoal and caffeine, SLES-free, silicone-free and colourant-free. It removes sebum and residue and energises the scalp rather than just degreasing it. The line is a Detox Shampoo, a Detox Mask and a Detox Peeling, plus a duo.
Best for: hair that goes flat within hours and a scalp that feels heavy — typically dry shampoo, styling product and hard water accumulating together. Use it as a reset, not as your daily wash.
Cutis Pura — the scrub
A red clay and quartz exfoliating scalp scrub. Physical exfoliation, once a week at most, before a Requilibre or Oxygen Detox wash. Skip it entirely if you are in the Velour category.
Build the routine
Oily scalp: Requilibre shampoo (2–3× a week) → Sebum Balancing Scalp Lotion on the course → Oxygen Detox Peeling once a fortnight.
Dandruff: Puroxine shampoo (3× a week for four weeks) → Purifying Micellar Water between washes → step down to twice a week once the flaking clears.
Sensitive: Velour shampoo only → nothing else on the scalp for three weeks → reintroduce one product at a time.
Shedding: Lotion Concentrée ampoule ritual → Energizing Tonic daily → a gentle wash (Velour or Nutrisubstance) so nothing else irritates.
Three honest cautions
- Scalp lines are not lengths care. If your ends are dry, pair any of these with Nutrisubstance or Huile d'Étoile on the lengths only.
- Dandruff and dry scalp are different conditions. Flakes plus oil is dandruff; flakes plus tightness is dryness, and Puroxine is the wrong answer for the second one.
- Nothing here treats medical hair loss. These are cosmetic products with clinical testing behind them. Sudden, patchy or rapid loss is a doctor's appointment.
