100% Vegan, ZeroSulfate® Colour Care — Salon-Professional Since 2001

Pureology was founded in Irvine, California in 1999 by stylist Jim Markham and launched in 2001 as the first 100% vegan, sulfate-free professional line built specifically for colour-treated hair. L'Oréal acquired the brand in 2007, and it has been PETA-certified cruelty-free since 2012. Two technologies still carry it: ZeroSulfate® cleansing, which washes hair clean without the sulfates that pull colour pigment out along with the oil and dirt, and the patented AntiFade Complex®, an antioxidant and UV-filter blend that sits in every single Pureology product — shampoos, masks, stylers, even the hair perfume.

ProHair carries nine Pureology lines. Hydrate is the default for dry, normal-to-thick colour-treated hair; Hydrate Sheer is the silicone-free version for fine hair; Pure Volume builds body with wheat protein and eucalyptus; Strength Cure repairs damage with Keravis plant protein and astaxanthin; Strength Cure Blonde adds violet pigment to that same repair; Smooth Gloss is the brand's new anti-frizz line, claiming 8x smoother strands and 72 hours of frizz control at 90% humidity; Color Fanatic is the 21-in-1 leave-in that suits every hair type; Style + Protect covers colour-safe styling; and Love Luster is the alcohol-free hair perfume. Worth knowing, because it is repeated everywhere and it is wrong: Pureology contains no keratin. The protein is Keravis, and it is plant-derived.

Two lines we still stock — Nanoworks Gold and Smooth Perfection — are no longer on Pureology Canada's own collection list. Our supplier still carries them and customers still ask for them, so we still sell them, but if you are choosing a line to settle on, Smooth Gloss is the brand's active answer to frizz. Pureology is not cheap: a 266 ml shampoo is $37.50 and a litre is $86.25. The formulas are concentrated, though, the litre works out 39% cheaper per millilitre, and free shipping starts at $120.

Which PUROLOGIA Products Are Right for You?

Shampoos and Conditioners

Best for: Every colour client, every line

ZeroSulfate® cleansers and their matching conditioners in 50 ml, 266 ml and 1 L. Pick the line by how much weight your hair can carry, not by how dry it feels — Hydrate for thick, Hydrate Sheer for fine, Pure Volume for flat.

Duos and Litres

Best for: Anyone re-ordering the same line

The 1 L is 8.6 ¢/ml against 14.1 ¢/ml for the 266 ml — 39% less per wash. Duos pair the shampoo and conditioner at one size tier and save about 2.5%. Add the $4.99 White Liter Pump; a litre bottle without one is genuinely awkward.

Masks and Deep Treatments

Best for: Weekly repair, moisture or smoothing

Three 250 ml masks at $45.00, each doing a different job: Hydrate for 72-hour moisture, Strength Cure for acid-and-protein repair on bleached hair, Smooth Gloss for frizz a conditioner cannot hold. One a week does more for shine than extra conditioner.

Leave-In and Colour Refresh

Best for: Protecting the shade between appointments

Color Fanatic 21-in-1 Leave-In Spray primes, smooths and heat-protects to 450°F on any hair type. The Top Coat glosses weekly and tones — blue kills orange in brunettes for up to 18 washes, purple kills yellow in blondes for up to 8.

Repair Serums and Split-End Care

Best for: Damaged ends and breakage

Strength Cure Dream Healer Serum 100 ml seals split ends and shields to 450°F; the Split End Salve 50 ml is worked into the last few centimetres on dry hair. Both use Keravis plant protein — not keratin, which Pureology does not contain.

Colour-Safe Styling

Best for: Hold, lift and texture without a fade penalty

All ten Style + Protect products carry the AntiFade Complex® and all ten are $34.50: two hairsprays, two mousses, a root mist, texture spray, sugar-based beach spray, texture paste, taming serum and dry shampoo.

Gift Sets and Travel Sizes

Best for: Trying a line, or giving one

50 ml travel sizes at $13.50 are the honest way to test a line before committing $86.25 to a litre. The full-size Holiday Trios bundle a 266 ml shampoo, conditioner and 200 ml Color Fanatic for $84.10 against $112.13 separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Pureology contain keratin?
No. The protein in Strength Cure, Strength Cure Blonde and Nanoworks Gold is Keravis, a plant-derived protein. Pureology is 100% vegan, so keratin — an animal protein — appears nowhere in the range. The claim is repeated widely online and it is simply wrong; we corrected it across our own product pages on 3 September 2026.
Why does sulfate-free matter for colour-treated hair?
Sulfates are strong detergents that lift colour pigment out of the fibre along with oil and dirt. Pureology's ZeroSulfate® system uses gentler surfactants that clean without that trade, so the shade you paid a salon for stays in longer and the hair does not feel squeaky and stripped afterwards. It is the single largest controllable cause of fade.
Hydrate or Hydrate Sheer — how do I choose?
Thickness decides it, not dryness. Both are moisture lines at the same price. Hydrate is creamier, uses lightweight silicones and is built for normal-to-thick hair. Hydrate Sheer is silicone-free and built for fine hair. If a conditioner has ever left your roots limp within a few hours, take Sheer. If your thick hair still feels dry on Sheer, go back to Hydrate.
What is the difference between Hydrate Sheer and Pure Volume?
This is the pair people get wrong most often. Both are silicone-free and both suit fine hair, but Sheer is a moisture line that happens to be light, while Pure Volume is a volume line — wheat protein and eucalyptus leaf extract build body into the strand. Fine and dry, take Sheer. Fine and flat, take Pure Volume. If it is both, start on Sheer and add a Style + Protect root product.
Is the 1 L bottle actually better value?
Yes, substantially. A 266 ml shampoo at $37.50 works out to 14.1 ¢ per millilitre; the 1 L at $86.25 is 8.6 ¢ per millilitre — 39% less. The litre costs about 2.3 bottles' worth of money and holds 3.8 bottles' worth of product. Add the White Liter Pump at $4.99, because a litre bottle without one over-pours every time.
Can I use Strength Cure Blonde purple shampoo every day?
Better not to. It deposits violet pigment with every wash, and on very porous, freshly lightened blonde daily use can push the tone cool or dull. Use it two or three washes a week and alternate with Hydrate or Hydrate Sheer. If your brass is occasional rather than structural, the Color Fanatic Top Coat in Tone Purple is the gentler weekly option.
Are Nanoworks Gold and Smooth Perfection being discontinued?
Neither line appears on Pureology Canada's own current collection list. Our supplier still carries both, so we still sell them and you can still buy them here. But if you are picking a line to stay on for years, Smooth Gloss is the brand's active frizz line and Strength Cure covers the repair brief. Nanoworks Gold has no announced successor. We would rather tell you now.
Is your Pureology genuine, and is it current stock?
Yes. ProHair has supplied Canadian salons and stylists since 1996 and buys Pureology through Canadian professional distribution — never diverted, never grey-market. Every product image on this site was re-shot against the brand's own current packaging on 2 September 2026, so what you see is the livery that will arrive.

Why Buy From ProHair?

ProHair has supplied Canadian salons, stylists and their clients since 1996. We buy Pureology through Canadian professional distribution, so every bottle is current stock in current packaging — never diverted, never grey-market, never old-livery clearance.

We carry the full range: all nine lines, every size from the 50 ml travel bottle to the 1 L, the matched duos, the masks and serums, all ten Style + Protect stylers and the seasonal gift trios. Free shipping on orders over $120 — one litre bottle or any duo clears it.
