Frizz is not one problem. Coarse hair that swells in humidity, dry hair whose cuticle is rough, and hair that only looks smooth after a blow-dry all frizz for different reasons — and KMS answers each with a different line. That is why the KMS collection at ProHair.ca has three smoothing routes: TameFrizz, AllSmooth and ThermaShape. This guide explains what each one is built to do, which products we currently stock in each, and how to combine them without buying things you do not need.
Everything below is based on the official KMS Canada product descriptions and on the sizes currently listed on ProHair.ca. Formula attributes (sulfate-free, vegan and so on) vary product by product, so treat the individual product page as the final word.
The 60-second answer
- Medium to thick, coarse hair that frizzes when the weather turns: start with TameFrizz Shampoo and TameFrizz Conditioner.
- Dry, rough or dull hair that needs nourishment as much as smoothing: AllSmooth Shampoo, AllSmooth Conditioner, then one leave-in from the AllSmooth line.
- Hair you blow-dry or flat-iron straight: ThermaShape Straightening Creme on towel-dried hair, with Quick Blow Dry if drying time is the pain point.
- Any of the above on a humid day: finish with HairStay Anti-Humidity Seal.
TameFrizz — the wash-day base for coarse hair
KMS positions TameFrizz for medium to thick, coarse hair. The official description of TameFrizz Shampoo calls it “the first step in frizz reduction and improved manageability”, and the Conditioner is described as reducing frizz after one wash while detangling and smoothing. Both formulas use KMS’s AHA Structure Complex with lactic acid, glycyl glycine for manageability, babassu (which the brand credits with restoring elasticity and smoother ends) and acacia for moisture retention. The conditioner is listed by KMS as a vegan formula.
Sizes at ProHair.ca: shampoo 300 ml and 750 ml, conditioner 250 ml and 750 ml, plus the TameFrizz Shampoo + Conditioner Duo in the 750 ml back-bar tier for households that go through a lot of product.
How to use it: lather, rinse, repeat if needed; leave the conditioner in for two minutes before rinsing. That is the whole line as we currently stock it — KMS’s TameFrizz stylers and oils are not in the Canadian assortment we receive, so if you want a leave-in step, borrow it from AllSmooth (below).
Best for: thick, coarse or wavy hair where the frizz comes from the hair’s own texture rather than from damage or dryness.
AllSmooth — smoothing plus nourishment, with the most leave-in options
AllSmooth is the KMS line to choose when hair is dry, rough or dull as well as frizzy. According to KMS, AllSmooth Shampoo gently cleanses, enhances smoothness and deeply nourishes; AllSmooth Conditioner is credited with up to four times easier detangling and up to twenty times more elasticity versus untreated hair, and with reducing frizz and flyaways. Both are listed for straight to coily hair.
Where AllSmooth really pulls ahead of TameFrizz is the leave-in step. We currently carry four, and they are built for different hair weights:
- AllSmooth Weightless Anti-Frizz Serum (100 ml) — KMS’s pick for fine to medium hair: anti-frizz and anti-static, smooths flyaways, adds natural shine, and is light enough not to flatten fine hair.
- AllSmooth Smoothing Lotion (150 ml) — a lightweight leave-in for wavy to coily hair that KMS describes as giving instant combability and up to three times easier detangling. The natural blow-dry prep step.
- AllSmooth Intense Nourishing Oil (100 ml) — for medium to coarse hair: anti-frizz, anti-static and an intense shine boost. KMS also lists it for body and beard use.
- AllSmooth Intense Nourishing Treatment (100 ml, 500 ml, or a 10 × 10 ml sachet box) — the rinse-out mask. KMS describes it as bond-building (hydrogen and ionic bonds), up to 50% smoother hair and a large reduction in breakage and split ends. Use it once a week in place of conditioner when hair feels rough.
Sizes at ProHair.ca: shampoo 75 ml, 300 ml and 750 ml; conditioner 75 ml, 250 ml and 750 ml; the AllSmooth Shampoo + Conditioner Duo in the 750 ml tier; the leave-ins in the single sizes listed above.
Best for: dry, rough, dull or chemically stressed hair of any thickness — and for anyone who wants a serum or oil, because that is where the AllSmooth range is deepest.
ThermaShape — smoothing that is activated by heat
ThermaShape is not a wash-day line; it is a prep-for-heat line. If your hair only looks smooth after a blow-dry or a flat iron, these are the products that make the result last and reduce the damage of getting there.
- ThermaShape Straightening Creme (150 ml) — KMS describes it as transforming coarse or unruly hair into smooth styles that last until the next wash, with humidity resistance and frizz reduction for up to 72 hours and heat protection up to 230 °C / 446 °F. Apply to towel-dried hair, comb through and blow-dry with tension on a round brush.
- ThermaShape Straightening Conditioner (300 ml) — a conditioner with what KMS calls a semi-permanent, gradual straightening effect: it uses glyoxylic acid and Polysilicone-29 and is activated by a straightening iron over repeated uses. Leave in two minutes, rinse, then iron. Skip it if you air-dry — it needs the heat step to do its job.
- ThermaShape Quick Blow Dry (200 ml or 75 ml travel) — sprayed on towel-dried hair as the last step before drying. KMS credits it with significantly faster drying, less friction, 72-hour frizz control and heat protection up to 230 °C. Also sold as a twin pack.
- ThermaShape 2-in-1 Spray (200 ml) — for dry hair before hot tools, or as a finishing spray for extra hold and shine, with 72-hour humidity resistance.
Best for: people who heat-style most days and want the straight result to survive until the next wash. ThermaShape does not replace shampoo and conditioner; pair it with TameFrizz or AllSmooth.
Frizz on curly hair is a different job
If your frizz comes from curls or coils that have lost definition, do not smooth them flat — define them. CurlUp Control Creme is described by KMS as shaping and bundling curls with frizz reduction for up to 72 hours, and CurlUp Perfecting Lotion defines without crunch and can be reactivated by scrunching. Our styling and texture guide covers the whole CurlUp line.
Two things that quietly make frizz worse
Hard water and product build-up. KMS lists HeadRemedy Deep Cleanse Shampoo as removing build-up from styling products, minerals, pollutants and hard water while balancing scalp pH. One wash with it every week or two keeps smoothing products working on clean hair.
Humidity, after you have finished styling. A smoothing routine only holds as long as the surface is sealed. HairStay Anti-Humidity Seal (150 ml or 75 ml) is KMS’s 72-hour humidity-blocking finishing spray, credited with eliminating up to 90% of frizz and flyaways and a weightless, high-shine finish; spray it 25–30 cm from dry hair as the last step. HairStay Dry Oil Hairspray does the same job with light hold and extra shine, and works on waves too.
Quick decision guide
- Coarse, thick, frizzes in humidity → TameFrizz shampoo + conditioner, HairStay Anti-Humidity Seal to finish.
- Dry, rough, dull, medium to coarse → AllSmooth shampoo + conditioner, Intense Nourishing Oil or Smoothing Lotion, weekly Intense Nourishing Treatment.
- Fine hair with flyaways → AllSmooth shampoo + conditioner, Weightless Anti-Frizz Serum.
- Blow-dried or ironed straight → AllSmooth or TameFrizz base, ThermaShape Straightening Creme, Quick Blow Dry, 2-in-1 Spray before the iron.
- Wants gradual straightening at home with an iron → ThermaShape Straightening Conditioner.
- Curly and frizzy → CurlUp, not a smoothing line.
If you only buy one thing
For most people it is AllSmooth Smoothing Lotion: a lightweight leave-in that detangles, reduces frizz and preps for a blow-dry, and works over any shampoo you already own. If your hair is fine, swap it for the Weightless Anti-Frizz Serum.
Smart buying tips
- The 750 ml shampoo and conditioner tiers cost far less per millilitre than 300 ml / 250 ml — but buy the small size first if you have never used the line.
- The AllSmooth and TameFrizz duos pair the shampoo and conditioner in the back-bar tier at a lower combined price than the two bottles separately.
- The AllSmooth Intense Nourishing Treatment sachet box (10 × 10 ml) is the cheapest way to try the mask before committing to 500 ml.
- Eligible Canadian orders of $120 or more ship free.
FAQ
Can I mix TameFrizz and AllSmooth?
Yes. A common combination is the TameFrizz shampoo and conditioner for coarse hair with an AllSmooth serum or oil as the leave-in, because we do not currently stock TameFrizz leave-ins.
Is ThermaShape Straightening Conditioner a keratin treatment?
No. KMS describes it as a conditioner with a gradual, semi-permanent straightening effect that builds with repeated use and a straightening iron. It is a rinse-out product you use yourself, not a salon service, and the effect depends on the iron step.
Which one is safe for colour-treated hair?
None of the three smoothing lines is marketed by KMS as a colour-care line. If colour fade is your bigger concern, build the wash-day base from ColorVitality and add an AllSmooth leave-in — see our colour care and blonde guide.
Do I need heat protection if I only blow-dry?
KMS lists heat protection up to 230 °C on Quick Blow Dry, Straightening Creme and the 2-in-1 Spray, so any of them covers a blow-dryer as well as a flat iron.
Bottom line
TameFrizz for coarse hair that frizzes by nature, AllSmooth for hair that is dry and rough as well as frizzy (and for every serum, oil and mask), ThermaShape when the smooth result comes from heat. Seal any of them with HairStay Anti-Humidity Seal on humid days.
