Match the barrel to the finish you want, not only to your hair length: the barrel diameter is roughly the diameter of the bend you keep. We stock 12 mm to 82 mm. Fringe and short hair, 12-25 mm. Shoulder-length, 34-45 mm. Long hair you want smooth and fast, 54-82 mm. If you are buying one brush for shoulder-length hair, a 44-45 mm barrel is the most versatile single choice. What is the difference between NanoThermic, Ceramic + Ion, HeatPro, EcoHair and EcoCeramic?
They are the same idea executed at different price points and in different materials. Ceramic + Ion is the workhorse ceramic barrel with ionic bristles. NanoThermic adds a nano-ion barrel coating that spreads heat more evenly and is the line most stylists run on a busy blow-dry station. HeatPro is built for heat tolerance, rated to 290 C. EcoHair puts boar-and-ion or ion bristles on a renewable bamboo body. EcoCeramic pairs bamboo with a ceramic thermal barrel and a firmer bristle for thick hair that needs real tension. Barrel size matters more to your result than which of these you choose.
Do the Speed XL brushes really dry hair 25% faster?
Olivia Garden's claim is 25% faster, and on long or dense hair the vented extra-long barrel does make a measurable difference because air passes through the section rather than only around it. On fine hair above the shoulder the saving is small and the longer barrel is harder to control in short sections. We would buy Speed XL for long, thick hair and a standard barrel for short or fine.
Which Olivia Garden brush is right for curly hair?
The CurlyHair line is sized by curl type, which is unusual and genuinely useful. 2A to 3A: the CurlyHair Brush or the purple Splash. 2C to 4A: the green dual-bristle Splash. 3B to 4C: the wide-bristle brush, with the wide-tooth comb with handle for heavy tangles. If you are between two ranges, size up to the wider spacing. Detangle wet with conditioner still in, bottom-up.
Is boar bristle better than ion bristle?
Neither is better, they do different jobs. Boar grips the cuticle and drags natural oils down the strand, which is where real shine comes from, but it barely penetrates thick hair and it is not vegan. Ion nylon bristles neutralise the static that blow-drying builds up, which matters most on fine and flyaway hair. Combo brushes alternate both and are the right answer for most people on medium to thick hair. For wet detangling, use neither: use memory-flex or ball-tip nylon.
What blade length and tooth count should my first professional shear be?
A 5.75 in convex shear for general salon work, paired with a 21- or 25-tooth thinner. Go to 5 in if you mostly cut short hair or barber, and 6.5 in if you do high-volume men's work or scissor-over-comb. On thinners, fewer teeth removes more hair and shows more: 9 teeth is aggressive notching, 35 teeth is gradual debulking. You can always take more hair; you cannot put it back. Do you stock genuinely left-handed shears?
Yes, and they are properly reversed, not right-handed shears relabelled. How do I clean and care for an Olivia Garden brush or shear?
